Now JR will be returning to the announce table in October this year where he will be commentating on MMA’s one night tournament ‘Battlegrounds’.
Ross, who in recent years was only commentating sporadically due to his Bell ’s palsy condition, admitted earlier this year that his retirement from commentating was somewhat involuntary, after claims he was fired for being intoxicated at a WWE event. Ross claims that he was in fact fired, but not for intoxication, but for insulting a sponsor instead.
Ross has been named announcer of the year 14 times and will now make his shock comeback away from Sports Entertainment and into the MMA industry. Despite many fans surprise at the appointment, it is believed that JR made first contact with the organisation, hoping to work in a field he has always had such huge admiration for.
His podcast, ‘The Ross Report’ has gained huge recognition amongst wrestling fans and has invested a large amount of his time into it due to his dismissal, but now it looks as if he could be embarking on a future in MMA, but obviously that would be down to good health.
JR will be joined at the announce table by shamed former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen. Sonnen, who was banned from the sport on 3 separate occasions for failing drugs tests, has had a chequered past to say the least.
In 2011 he pleaded guilty to money laundering in connection with mortgage fraud and was given a 2 year suspended sentence. In the years that have followed he has in no way cleaned up his act, so it begs the question, why should a man who has abused his privileges on a number of occasions be allowed to have another go in the same industry? That is a question that can only be answered by the promoters, but with Ross and Sonnen together; they should make one hell of a partnership!
