Pietro Menga from Salford, Greater Manchester has long being one of UK’s brightest MMA prospects, undefeated in pro competition with a record of 12-0 and often the subject of speculation on UK MMA Blogs as to when he will get the call up from MMA’s biggest promotion. So far however the bright lights of the UFC Octagon have manage to eluded him despite being undefeated whilst other brits have had their chance to shine on the world stage.

Menga hopes to finally put a spotlight on himself with a month long training trip at the gyms in and around Toms River, New Jersey that make up the training bases of coaches Mark Henry and Ricardo Almeida and home to UFC Fighters former lightweight champion and currently #2 ranked featherweight Frankie Edgar, and Edson Barboza the featherweight famous for his Highlight Reel KO wheel kick of Terry Etim. One of the other fighters Menga hopes to mixing it with is  World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes.

In one of his recent podcasts UFC Commentator Joe Rogan called Mark Henry “One of the most underrated trainers in the game today”, a coach known for his meticulous planning, detail and strategy a fact which isn't lost on Menga who has been eyeing up a visit here for the last 2 years.

“My plan was to always go and train here at some point, I like what I see. I like Edgar, Barbosa and Marlon Moraes. They all have different fighting styles but I like how it looks, tight knit you know, it looks like it works”

“A lot of the training sessions seem to be one on one with the coach and then putting it together as a team afterwards, I’ve just got a good feeling about it”.

Anyone who has followed Pietro Menga’s MMA career knows that he is an extremely well rounded fighter equally at home on the mat as he is striking. From starting Muay Thai at the age of 6 with Master Sken Kaewpadung, and beginning life as a muay thai fighter, he sidelined into MMA almost by accident in his teens after a long period training at Atherton Submission Wrestling home of the like of Rob Broughton and Paul Cahoon during their Cage Rage days.
